Leadership Philosophy Statement
Sharpen the Ax & Use the 3 P's to Create Your Legacy
Sharpen the Ax: Put work in early to make the job easier – Be Prepared
“If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I would spend the first six sharpening the Ax” – Abraham Lincoln
3 P’s – The Purpose, The People, and Personal Responsibility
· Purpose: Clearly define the mission—why you are doing what you are doing. That purpose must be legal, moral, and ethical. Once established, it becomes the standard against which all decisions and actions are measured.
· People: Two things you must do to lead people:
1. Care for their welfare by listening, developing them, and leading with tactics and techniques that give them the best chance to succeed.
2. Then, demonstrate the courage of your convictions by consistently doing what is right for them.
· Personal Responsibility: Maintain your physical, mental, and moral readiness so you can serve the mission and your people effectively. It comes last for a reason: never put personal comfort, ego, or advancement ahead of the mission or the welfare of those you lead. Your example sets the tone for the entire team.
Legacy - Be a Good Ancestor - Plant trees you’ll never see.
